New YouTube Logo!
If you have not yet been on YouTube, you may get a bit of a surprise to notice that they have updated their logo. It is now parted ways with a focus on Tube. It also includes a new typeface as well as a change in colour schemes.
This is probably one of the biggest changes to the website in a long time and they are saying that the reasoning behind it is to allow for a more flexible design.
Of course, this also shows how much importance there is in keeping up with the times and staying relevant. Things become out dated and might not work or display the best on all devices.
Youtube is something that has to suit a massive amount of tech from TV’s to smartphones, laptops, PC’s. Just about anything these days with an internet connection can access YouTube so it is a good move on thier part.
Changes and Updates Coming For YouTube
Along with the new logo, the company are planning to release a new set of features to compliment the platform over the next few months. Some changes are really great and I am looking forward to them.
Full-Screen Vertical Video… Finally!
It appears that they have been once again optimizing things for mobile devices, allowing for a much better vertical video viewing experience. There is nothing worse than a vertical video! And YouTube now has a workaround.
New Skip/Re-wind Feature
Users will soon be able to easily skip a video forward or back while viewing in full-screen simply by double tapping to the left or right of the screen. Double-tap left to go back, double-tap right to go forward.
It looks like the default is to jump by steps of 10 seconds.
Play Speed Settings
Although not exactly a new feature, they have improved how these settings are accessed on mobile devices.
Light and Dark Themes!
In addition to the “Cinema” mode, we will soon also be able to completely change the background of YouTube from Light to Dark. This is something that I think a lot of people would have been asking for.
Check out the video below to see a preview of all of these features in the YouTube promo video:
What do you think?
Let me know in the comments… do you like it? Hate it? It will be interesting to know what people think about the logo and the proposed changes.
